Artifacts

In Ursula Le Guin’s “Always Coming Home” the Kesh people speak a different language. They speak Conlang. Conlang is short for constructed language such as a language the writer, their friend, or some other associate has made up for the purpose of using in a book or show. They make up an exact vocabulary and grammar, one that can be translated into English. This relates to my artifact of the history of the language of the Teffiti people because they speak a secret language. This secret language was developed when Teffiti was made. The language was developed on
rocks and spoken only by the people of Teffiti and there is technology to translate it to new people of  the utopia of Teffiti.

This earpiece will translate the language of Teffiti to whoever has the device on. This device cannot leave the man made island and has to be checked out by the individual so the government can track these devices. Since keeping the language secret, that is the main reason these devices are checked out and kept track of.

After doing some ethnographic field, any visitor is bound notice the importance of education to the People of Teffiti.

Libraries are akin to McDonalds or Starbucks in the USA circa 2015. They are everywhere, big, and ornate. Their "schools", if you can even call them only that, are immaculate. With classrooms, Augmented Reality chambers, athletic facilities, and a healthcare facility all in one seemingly boundless building.

The people are all polyglots, who speak a cocktail of languages. Mandarin, English, Spanish, Yoruba and you name it.

When exploring the library, I was not surprised at the vast collection of literature. In this vacuum of knowledge, I found some interesting books translated into english. Checking out of the library, I obtained a library card that doubles as an interesting bookmark.

This bookmark is no regular bookmark. It can read aloud the book it is placed in. It can also give a recap of the previous chapter as well as prior chapters to that. The bookmark has a glossary and index function. this bookmark is like a remote specially made for books.
